Doulas & Dads/Partners

Dad’s Perspective

Jason & Becky

We decided to use Chris’ Doula services during the pregnancy of our first child. We always looked forward to Chris’ visits to our home. She was straightforward, provided us with lots of informative reading material, and helped me to have a better understanding of my role and responsibilities during my wife’s labor and delivery. When the big day came I don’t think I could have done the 36 hour marathon without the help and support of Chris. She was such a big help, not only supporting my wife and using techniques to make her comfortable, but she also helped me help my wife and kept me informed of what to expect during the whole process. Chris respected our birth plan, did what she could to help us stick to it and really had us in her best interests. During the birth of our son, I was able to be an advocate for my wife and fully give her the support, care and encouragement that she needed. Chris was a great support system. She gave us 110% of her services and for that I am very grateful.

Thanks again,
Jason

1. There’s a common thought in society that a Doula is not necessary if a woman has a husband or partner supporting her during labour. What are your thoughts about this?

The decision to hire a doula is typically based on comfort level. For us, we felt it would be beneficial to go through the process with someone who had more experience.

2. How was my service helpful to you as Janice’s husband?

Your services were helpful to alleviate the pressure during labour and delivery. It was nice to be able to rely on someone who had more experience and who had solutions or suggestions that could be helpful to make my wife more comfortable.
